Raising My Hand

RAISING MY HAND

Participatory Intervention

The hand speaks powerfully in silence: the holding hands of lovers, the comforting hand on the shoulder of the grieving, the raised hands of prisoners, the “signing” of the deaf. Hands are our language and a substitute for voice. Each silhouette is a hand raised in support for women and gender equity and they are also answering a question.

This art project aims to showcase hands that convey a message transcending gender, race, religion, belief, culture, social class, sexual orientation, and age. United in their diversity, they share thoughts and embrace transformative change.
